The aim of this course is to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to devise and implement effective exercise programmes for both individuals and groups of all abilities.

  • Module 7:Applied Exercise & Health Fitness Instruction 2 (Resistance training)
  • Module 8:Applied Exercise & Health Fitness Instruction 3 (Circuit Training & Body Conditioning)
  • Module 9:Applied Exercise & Health Fitness Instruction 4 (Step Training Flexibility)
  • Module 10:Exercise & Fitness Applications (Module 10 Summative Written Examination / Module 10 Summative Practical Examination)
     

Examinations:

All modules are examined on a continuous assessment basis and may include both theoretical and practical elements of assessment. Candidates must successfully complete Modules 1-9 in order to take Module 10. The programme includes a research project and a work experience element.

Entry Criteria:

  • Candidates should hold the Irish Leaving Certificate (minimum pass in five subjects) or equivalent. Other standards within Leaving Certificate of other levels of education will be considered under the NCEF / UL approved policy of recognised prior learning (RPL)
  • Candidates should be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Keen interest in exercise and fitness/sport

 Certification Awarded:

Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness Accredited by the University of Limerick

Please note: It is a requirement that each student on this course purchases their own Reebok Step, Stability Ball and Resistance Tube/Dyna Band and a set of Hand Weights which will be used by the student for practical sessions.

FAQ's

What are the entry requirements for the Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness?

  • All candidates must hold the Leaving Certificate with a minimum Grade D3 in five Ordinary Level subjects ( including maths, Irish or another language, and English) or equivalent.
  • Applicants who do not hold the Leaving Certificate can apply through the UL/NCEF recognition fo Prior Learning Scheme (RPL). This involves submission of a portfolio of Learning (POL). The POL application form & details are available form the NCEF Head Office and respective contracted training offices. Each RPL application is assessed by the UL/NCEF RPL Assessment Board
  • Candidates should have a commitment to encouraging others to take part in healthy exercise, a desire to become a safe and effective instructor and have a confident, enthusiastic and adaptable personality, good communication skills and like working with people.
  • Experience of participation in a fitness activity of a particular sport is important whilst good rythm and co-ordinaiton is also desirable.
What will I be qualified to do when I complete the Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness?
  • Upon successful completion fo the Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness (UL Accredited) you will be qualified as an Exercise and Health Fitness Instructor, with the Knowledge and qualification to provide instruction in exercise to music, step aerobics, circuit and resistance training. You will also be qualified to assess fitness levels and to plan safe, effective and enjoyable physical activity/fitness programmes for the adult population.
What is involved in Module 4 Work Placement Experience on the Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness?
  • Work Placement si spread throughout the programme. This is arranged by the student themselves in their own time. A section of the work placement is with an employer (shift record) but the main elements nvolve participation in a variety of exercise classes e.g. Step, circuit, spinning etc. This is designed to expose the students to a wide variety of teaching styles and methodologies, to give them ideas for their teaching and also to assist them in polishing/fine tuning their timing and coordinaiton. Students are also required to complete a Work Placement Report of between 2,000 and 2,500 words.

Committment: Over 3 weekends per month
Course Runs: Friday evenings 7pm –10 pm , Saturdays 10am – 6pm
Cost: €2,565
Payment Terms: Payable in 4 instalments: €500 Deposit, €1000 First Evening Registration, €532.50 Due 6 weeks after Course Start, €532.50 Due after Christmas.

About NCEF

The NCEF was initially established in 1987 by the Physical Education Association of Ireland (PEAI) in association with Thomond College of Education (now integrated into the University of Limerick). The initiation of the scheme was also supported by the Sports Section, Department of Education at that time. The NCEF became an academic affiliate of the University of Limerick in June 2006. The Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness (CEHF) which leads into a pathway to the Diploma in Exercise & Health Fitness (DEHF) are now offered. All NCEF progammes are fully accreditted by the University of Limerick.

The NCEF Head Office is located on the University of Limerick Campus and both certificate and diploma programmes operate nationwide both in industry based commercial settings and in educational establishments.

Maltings Training is a Certified Provider for the National Council for Exercise & Fitness (N.C.E.F) and authorised to provide the Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness which is accredited by the University of Limerick.

Policies

 
Fee Payment Policy:

  • Allocation of all course places are subject to payment of a booking deposit of €500. Course places will not be held until this payment is received in full.
  • Students will not be permitted entry on to programmes until booking deposit €500 and first fee instalment €1000 have been made.
  • The balance of course fees must then be paid in two instalments €565 & €500, students will be issued a payment schedule by mail at the beginning of the course, and all further correspondence will be made via email/text.
  • Students will not be registered for examinations, nor be permitted to undertake examinations until course fees have been paid in full.

Refund Policy:

  • Maltings Training will do everything in its power to ensure that applicants are fully aware of the content and detail of all programmes of study before application for same. This will be achieved through the use of our website www.maltingstraining.ie , through information packs, telephone assistance, and where relevant information evenings. Candidates with particular learning requirements will be accommodated sensitively. Those who consider the require special assistance or have a previously identified learning difficulty are obliged to notify this in writing to Maltings Training on application for a course place.
  • Once candidates commence on a programme of study, refunds will not be made if for any reason the applicant then decides not to continue with the programme.
  • Booking deposits paid to reserve course places are non refundable (see note 1 below).
  • Course fees paid in advance of course start date, over and above the booking deposit will be refunded to the applicant if the applicant cannot pursue the programme due to work / family / health reasons, these must be submitted in documented format.
  • Once applicants commence a programme of study all fees due by that date will not be refunded.


Notes:

  1. Maltings Training reserves the right to cancel or defer programmes deemed to be non viable, or unsuitable to run at that particular time. In this event applicants will be notified by telephone or mail and offered the following choices :

a). To have their deposit refunded in full.
        b). To retain their application on file and roll over their deposit to the next available start date.
        c). To transfer their booking deposit to another Maltings Training Programme of study.



Assessment / Examination Policy:

  • Each module will be assessed by continuous assessment.
  • Students will be notified of upcoming assessments by respective tutors/email
  • The student must notify the respective tutor if for any reason they are unable to attend the assessment, in this case documentary evidence e.g. Medical certificate must be provided
  • The student ms then sit the assessment on the next scheduled timetable date for that module, failure to do so will warrant a fail in that assessment.
  • Students will only be permitted to sit their final Mod 10 examinations if al continuous assessments have been completed and successfully passed.
  • Repeat/missed assessments must be completed a minimum of 3 weeks prior to final examinations
  • The pass mark in all assessments is 40%. Students who repeat failed assessments will be capped at this 40% level.
  • Students must receive a pass mark in all modules in order to be eligible to sit final examinations.
  • Students who miss their final written o practical Mod 10 examinations will be notified of a rescheduled date. If the student cannot attend that examination they must provide written evidence within 5 days prior                                            that date.
  • Final modular assessment marks and grades will be communicated to the student upon completion of the module by the respective tutor/email.
  • Tutors will forward the final grade for each module to Maltings office 3 weeks prior to course completion
  • Final practical / written assessment results will be communicated to the student by accessing the relevant website in respect of University of Limerick (UL) examinations. Note: Only UL can issue results to UL students this               usually takes about 6 to 8 weeks after completion of programme.
  • All results will be tabulated by Maltings office on an appropriate examination broadsheet, This will b forwarded to respective awarding bodies e.g. University of Limerick for submission to examinations board.
  • Compile summaries for all students presenting to Exam Board with List of outstanding criteria to facilitate indentifying students on the day.
  • Submit Broadsheets Mod 1 – 9 before Synoptic Papers are issued. Implication of this is that all tutors must submit continuous assessments results to us a minimum 2 weeks before synoptic date.
  • Send in practical forms in order: lowest grade on bottom highest grade on top.
  • Hold exam papers for 18months form exam board date.
  • UL Academic year Sept – Sept (repeat notification will be given by University of Limerick).
  • Certificates will be issued to students upon successful completion of the programme at the designated graduation ceremony in University of Limerick.
  •          Where students are unsuccessful in particular elements of examination Maltings Training will communicate this to the student directly, and inform them of the course of action to be taken t retake the examination, or                            outstanding course – work to be completed
  • ·  Note: A resit fee / administration fee may apply in this case.
