Hospitality Traineeship

This programme offered by LOETB and delivered by Maltings Training is suitable for people seeking employment and wishing to develop their careers within the Hospitality Industry.
This is a one year full time programme designed to provide learners with the necessary skills and techniques required to operate in the Hospitality sector which include Accommodation Techniques, Customer Service, Bar Skills, and Restaurant Skills.
The programme combines directed off-the-job training (classroom based learning) in an ETB approved training centre with on-the-job training (work based learning) delivered in a host company and is planned in response to the recognised skills and employment shortages currently being experienced within this industry.
Course Aim
This programme will give you the unique opportunity to study hospitality at QQI Level 5 and to gain valuable work experience in local hotels and restaurants. The overall aim is to gain employment in the Hospitality sector.
Ideal candidates should have
- Leaving Certificate or QQI Level 4 or equivalent standard of education.
- All applicants must attend for interview and online assessment to determine suitability for the programme.
- Applications are open to people in receipt of Social Welfare and people who wish to develop their career in the Industry.
- No previous experience is necessary and applicants should have an interest in gaining employment in the continually expanding hospitality sector.

- Accommodation Techniques
- Restaurant Hospitality
- Restaurant Skills
- Personal Effectiveness
- Customer Service
- Word Processing
- Licensed Trade Law
- First Aid/ Manual Handling
- Barista Studies
- Work Practice
Overall the programme is based on a duration of 1200 hours (typical learner effort), to include both directed and self directed learning.

All our Tutors are highly qualified in the area of hospitality. Many have successfully worked in Five star establishments and ran their own business.
Career Progression
Upon successful completion of this programme learners will have many transfer and progression options available to them. The learner may transfer to a programme leading to certification in one of the other level 5 QQI major or special purpose awards either with Laois and Offaly ETB or another QQI registered provider.
The learner may also progress to other appropriate programmes leading to awards at the next level of the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) with Laois and Offaly ETB or another QQI registered provider. Alternatively the learner may be eligible to apply to progress to the next or higher levels of the NFQ with a higher education provider.

Who can do a Traineeship / Is there a Course Fee?
Traineeships are open to everyone, and are free of Charge.
Are there Training Allowance Available?
Learners who satisfy DEASP Criteria will receive a Training allowance for the duration of the programme.
Are there any other supports available?
Childcare may be provided for eligible participants, while travel and/or accommodation allowances are payable where applicable.
Do I need any previous experience?
No previous experience is necessary, but participants must have an interest in beginning, or advancing, a career in the relevant sector.
What are the training hours?
Traineeships are Full time programmes operating Monday to Friday. Monday to Thursday 9am to 4.15pm, Friday 9am to 1.15pm. Total 33.25 hours per week.
