Strength & Conditioning

This award in n Strength and Conditioning is aimed at those who wish to pursue a career as a strength and conditioning coach. Learners will also develop the ability to apply practically the knowledge, understanding and skills to plan, design, implement and evaluate a strength and conditioning programme, which includes demonstration and instruction of Olympic lifting.

Course Aim

The VTCT Level 4 Award in Strength and Conditioning is aimed at learners aged 18+ who wish to pursue a career as a strength and conditioning coach. Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of a range of relevant theories, concepts and techniques used in different strength and conditioning programmes. They will also develop the ability to apply practically the knowledge, understanding and skills to plan, design, implement and evaluate a strength and conditioning programme, which includes demonstration and instruction of Olympic lifting.

Course Content

• Understand biomechanical demands of strength and conditioning.
• Understand the physiological responses to participation in strength and conditioning.
• Know how to undertake appropriate athletic pre-programme screening. Understand periodisation and how to plan a strength and conditioning pre-season mesocycle.
• Understand the role of nutrition within strength and conditioning.
• Be able to undertake functional athletic screening and advise on general reconditioning exercises.
• Be able to plan and administer health and skill related testing.
• Be able to effectively coach Olympic lifting.
• Be able to design a strength and conditioning programme.
• Be able to deliver and evaluate a strength and conditioning programme.
